Empires are large-scale organizations that control territories and are represented by a unique color and emblem on the world map.
Empires can engage in wars with one another, battling over land and forming strategic alliances. Each territory has a single Watchtower. When an invading Empire sieges a Watchtower and wins, they acquire that entire territory from the defending Empire. The larger an Empire becomes, the more rewards get unlocked for that Empire and its subjects. At the same time, they become more difficult to maintain and defend.
Empires are powered by Hexite Capsules, which require Hexite Energy found by prospecting for Hexite Fragments. You can donate Hexite Energy to your chosen Empire whenever you want. Empires can also control special resources which gives them more of this Hexite Energy when gathered.
Participation in Empire-related gameplay is entirely optional. Players who prefer to focus on other aspects of the game can safely ignore Empire mechanics. Empires do not affect your Settlement. However, Settlements can build special buildings which give players a buff at the cost of donating Hexite Energy to the Empire that controls the land.
Those who wish to take part can join an Empire to contribute to its growth and wellbeing. You can do so by interacting with a Watchtower owned by an empire, or by interacting with a Settlement Totem owned by an emperor. Alternatively, you can start own Empire by starting a settlement and interacting with your Settlement Totem, becoming an Emperor in the process.
